Irrelevant. DUST is not a typical shooter. Other shooters are built to be played and forgotten, and maybe returned to when DLC drops. The companies that make these games try to wring as much dosh from the players as possible before they drop by pricing their games crazy high and calling them "triple-A" to validate it (yes, I know CCP keeps drilling that buzzword, and it make me want to cut myself).
DUST is constructed differently from the fundaments of game design. Where other companies built for abandonment, CCP has built for retention and loyalty. The simple fact that the game has passive skilling will likely mean DUST will have many more regularly returning players than any other shooter, as it will reward early adopters with greater access to the game as their accounts progress.
Natassia Krasnoo wrote:2.) The life of a console game is only as good as the backwards compatability of the next gen of consoles. Few people tend to have 2 systems set out in order to play older games and will of course favor the newer console over the old. If the newer console is not backwards compatable with last gen games they get shelved to collect dust (no pun), or traded for new game credit. If the link is any indication it's not likely SONY will be doing backwards compatability in it's next gen console. Irrelevant. CCP has already said they will continue developing DUST for future Playstation consoles. If the PS4 isn't compatible with DUST, CCP will make a version of DUST that is compatible.
Natassia Krasnoo wrote:3.) When CCP talked about DUST at fanfest they kept saying "It will LAUNCH exclusively on the PS3. Maybe I'm reading more into this than is actually there, but an exclusive LAUNCH, and PS3 exclusive are 2 different things. That's what they've always said, if you listen and read closely. It's not news.

It seems to me that making a console only game that interacts with a PC game, that has been around for almost 10 years and will likely be around past 2015, is not good buisness. Therefore it's a logical conclusion that DUST will come to the PC eventually, there's really not much of a choice. CCP is too smart to gamble with their hard earned money. EVE was and is built for the long haul and a console game simply doesn't fit that profile. Yes, I agree that it's likely that DUST will come to PC at some point. However, I don't agree with your arguments.
Natassia Krasnoo wrote:My belief is that SONY simply doesn't want any competition for PLANETSIDE 2 on the PC. Once the PLANETSIDE 2 user base is established and maybe an expansion or 2 added DUST will release for the PC. More likely it's because Sony and CCP negotiated a timed exclusivity deal, as is common when developing games for consoles. In interviews, CCP has hinted that this is the case, but that they cannot comment on their agreements with Sony regarding that. Considering the amount of work Sony has had to do to sort out their licensing plans, agreements, back-end, etc. just to make DUST work, I think we'd be looking at an exclusivity period of at least a year.
